We meet in a large and comfortable ground floor room (with an adjacent bar!)
at the Wessex Hotel, High West St, Dorchester on
the 3rd Thursdays of most months. Start-up time is 7.00pm and we tend to
finish at about 11.00pm, although there is theoretically no end time as the
hotel has a night porter.
Participation is the name of the game, so anyone turning up will be
recruited into a game without difficulty (if they want to be!) You are
welcome to drift in for a short while to see what is going on, needless to
say. Age (physical or mental) is no barrier although we cannot be
responsible for children without an accompanying adult. We play mainly
historical wargames in a wide variety of
periods, although fantasy games figure regularly. The room we’re in has
enough tables, chairs and space to put on three or four 8’x 4’ games at
once. We’ve usually got between 15 and 25 people attending a good evening,
so turn up promptly if you want to find space to put on a game!
We’re not exactly a club, as there are no subs and the only rule is that
you’ve got to be friendly (and patronise the bar, to be fair, as the Wessex
have been very generous to let us have the venue for nothing). Folk gather
from far-flung places like Yeovil, Bridport, Wimbourne
(and even Weymouth!) Most of us game elsewhere on other weeks, so it’s a
good chance to meet up with other local wargamers
as possible once a month to find out what else is going on.
Meeting times:
7.00pm on the third Thursday of each month (excluding December)

Car parking
Limited parking is available on High West Street and in Princes Street to the rear. The Library car park, 200 yards away is the most reliable bet. It is always possible to unload materiel outside the front entrance in High West St or the rear in Princes St for a few minutes, before parking elsewhere. The hotel does have parking at the rear, accessed from Princes St, but it is limited and strictly for the use of staying guests, so please don’t use it for anything other than unloading!
